When pursuing a helicopter career, one of the first decisions you'll face when looking for the right aviation academy is whether to enroll in a degree program or follow a professional pilot track (non-degree). We offer both options, each designed to help students build a solid foundation for a future in flight.

While both routes have their merits, our Helicopter Degree Program, in partnership with Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC), offers a uniquely structured, comprehensive experience that goes beyond flight hours.

Why Consider the Helicopter Degree Program?

The Helicopter Degree Program is an 18-month, six-term, college-accredited program that combines high-level flight training with the academic support and structure of a traditional college setting.

Financial Advantages

One of the most common misconceptions about degree programs is that they’re more expensive. In reality, students in the degree program have access to federal financial aid, scholarships, and lower-interest student loans that aren’t available to non-degree students.

Through TVCC, eligible students can take advantage of:

  • Veterans benefits

    • Including full coverage for the private pilot rating

  • Federal aid and grants

  • Parent PLUS loans

  • Numerous scholarships

In many cases, these funding sources cover not only tuition but also a portion of flight training expenses. For veterans, our degree program offers strong financial advantages. Once loans are repaid, the total out-of-pocket cost is often comparable to that of the non-degree program, making it a competitive and cost-effective option in the long run.

Academic Structure and Support

Students in the degree program benefit from a structured environment designed to foster consistency and long-term success. The six-term schedule is intentionally balanced to support both technical training and personal growth.

  • Study groups and peer collaboration

  • Academic support from the college

  • Additional networking opportunities and certificates

  • Stronger sense of community and camaraderie

  • Regular progress tracking and accountability

This environment often leads to better retention, improved learning outcomes, and stronger professional readiness.

Enrollment Timing

We offer degree program enrollment in the Fall and Spring, allowing students time to plan, apply for aid, and prepare for a more immersive educational experience.

What About the Non-Degree Professional Pilot Track?

Our Professional Pilot Program (non-degree) remains a great choice for many students. This flexible pathway is especially well-suited for:

  • Those with traditional 9-to-5 jobs

  • Self-funded students

  • Individuals who already hold a college degree

  • Students seeking a faster, more streamlined route to certification

Participants receive the same high-quality flight training as degree-track students and have the freedom to progress at their own pace. However, this option does not include access to federal financial aid, academic coursework, or the additional benefits associated with a structured degree program.

Which One Is Right for You?

Both programs lead to professional certifications and career opportunities, but the degree program offers a broader experience, more financial support options, and long-term advantages that go beyond the cockpit.

The structured nature of the program, combined with the academic environment, often results in:

  • A stronger support network

  • Improved knowledge retention

  • Access to post-college job placement support

  • A degree that adds weight to your resume in a competitive industry

From a financial standpoint, the ability to use veterans benefits, access federal aid, and secure low-interest loans can make the true cost of the degree program nearly equal to the non-degree track, especially over time.
