Step 4:

Get Your Medical

As a student pilot you are required to pass a FAA Medical Exam. This is a physical exam performed by an authorized FAA Medical Examiner.

You are required to have your medical in hand before your first day of training at Silverhawk Aviation Academy. All student pilots need to keep a current Class II medical at all times.

Step 5:

Obtain Funding

Silverhawk is one of the few flight schools offering Sallie Mae loans to qualified students. Visit www.salliemae.com/smartterms for additional information. Another great source is Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). You can contact MBNA Bank to discuss AOPA's Flight Training Funds program at 1-800-882-8648 or you can visit www.aopa.org/info/certified for additional info. Pilot Finance Inc is limited to the applicant's income, credit history and debts. You can apply for their financing options online at www.pilotfinance.com.

Step 6:

Apply for Admission

If you're ready to apply for admission, please complete our application and submit it to Alisha Sweeney, Director of Student Services.

FINANCING

Loans & Scholarships

Find the payment plan that's right for you.

You can finance through traditional student loans at Treasure Valley Community College, or you may find private loans through a variety of companies. For the Professional Pilot Program through Silverhawk, we recommend the Sallie Mae Smart Option Student Loan. Visit Sallie Mae, fill out an online application, and receive your eligibility status within 24 hours.

Another great source for loans and scholarships is the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. You can get up to $25,000 of assistance through AOPA's Flight Training Funds program. Also, you will have access to many other sources and benefits by joining AOPA as a student pilot.

If you are interested in finishing or adding a rating and need financing on a smaller scale, we offer financing through Pilot Finance.

CAREER PATHS

LIFE FLIGHT (EMS)

Air medical services have a mission to save lives, transporting patients in rural areas and hospitals to large tertiary care facilities. Most air medical companies require a minimum of 2,000 hours total flight time.

FIRE FIGHTING

Wildland fire fighting is a career for seasoned pilots with 1,500 hours total flight time or more. Most firefighter pilots work under seasonal contracts, however some federal agency positions are full-time.

TURBINE TOURS

Applicants must have 1,000 hours of total flight time for most turbine tour positions. No previous turbine time is required, which is why turbine tour pilots are what many of our CFI's will pursue once they've reached the hour requirements. There are numerous tour companies worldwide in some of the most beautiful areas on Earth.
